# artMETIS->METIS

The most crucial aspect is that each artMETIS can be exchanged for METIS, as each artMETIS is backed by an amount equal to or greater than 1 METIS. METIS will be staked in the Metis Decentralized Sequencer Network to earn staking rewards. However, due to the mechanism in place, the process of exchanging artMETIS back to METIS will go through the following stages:

1. Pre-Launch Stage (Current stage): During this phase, users are temporarily not allowed to exchange artMETIS for METIS. However, the one who participates into this stage will be counted as early supporters with most benefits.
2. D-Sequencer Stake Stage: In this stage, all METIS staked in Artemis will contribute to earning rewards in the Decentralized Sequencer Network. To ensure the stability of the D-Sequencer during its initial launch, Node operators are not allowed to unstake METIS. However, Artemis will incentivize DeFi use cases through Metis Grants, allowing artMETIS holders to exit artMETIS for METIS liquidity on Dex. The expected launch date is at the end of March.
3. Full Launch Stage: In this stage, nodes will permit the unstaking of METIS. In addition to the exit option in the second stage, artMETIS holders can directly initiate a Redeem request through the Artemis Dapp. After a 21-day unstaking period, you will receive your METIS. The specific launch date is currently undecided from the Metis official.
